River Tay

Eddie and myself headed to the Tay for our first shot at a salmon.
We arrived after a small detour and met up with Stewart and Willie.
Gear at the ready we headed down to the bank and straight onto the boat.
Never fish the river in an boat before quite different form the bank.

After a while with no success just a small rattle on Eddie`s lure but came to nothing
We headed in to fish the bank

After lunch we headed back out and fished for the next 3 hours with nothing to show
Mind you not for the lack of trying on both our parts.
I guess the only consolation was to sea a nice salmon jump right next to the boat
Just missing Eddies lure and I did not have my camera at hand.
Back on the bank we had a couple of last ditched attempts before Stewart and Willie arrived back.

Willie showed us a video of Stewart landing an salmon of about 10 lbs nice fight Stewart had.
Well done that man looking forward to the next time.

River Tay

Well this years event on the Tay was not as eventful as last year. Went up with Eddie and my son Shane. Stewart and the lads were already there when we arrived.
Fished most of the morning and not a take. I decided to try further up the river hoping to connect with one and I come across Eddie and he had landed a small trout. Well it's my turn to listen to Eddie on the way home. lol... Looking forward to the next event.

Loch Etive

Went fishing to loch Etive at the weekend. Fishing was a bit slow to  start with but did pick up later on We managed to get some spurs thornies pouting and coddling. The old doggies also made an appearance. Shane got a nice common eel and 2 tagged spurs were recaptured and released.

Down the local beach

Went fishing down the local beach with Shane Will and Nico. Got some fresh lug and started fishing.
Nico was first with a small flounder and then a nice bass. Will had a very small codling but was soon into a double shot. A flounder and a bass. Shane and myself had a few flounders. A lot of small fish about codling and whiting about 4inchs long. A good sign as no codling or whiting being caught till now. Miss my best chance at a good bass. I got this small rattle on the rod tip followed by a bang and the tip pulled over. Lifted into it fish on as I got the slack line in it gave a few head shakes as it hit the surf then fish lost. Inspecting the hook it had the head off a small whiting. The whiting hit the bait and a bass hit the whiting just missing the hook. Well that's fishing for you.

Then to top it off Will lands a 6lb 10oz mullet after we spent about ten hours last week trying to catch one Lucky or what.

Weekend fishing

Met up with Will and my son Shane at the weekend for a spot of specimen hunting. The weather was not to good as it rained no stop from the minute we set out. After fishing a couple of marks with no success we opted for our last mark of the day to see what was about.

As well as the rain the wind had got up and made the sea a bit ruff. Not looking good with the big rolling waves and white horses further out it was looking as if it would be un fish able. We started fishing and about half an hour later Shane had an nice common eel about a pound.

I decide to move further down the beach and got my first smooth hound at 5lbs. The next minute Will and Shane were next to me. Will had landed a nice smooth hound at 6lbs 5ozs and Shane was into another nice eel around 1lb 7ozs.

Shane then got a cracking bite and his rod bent double as he fought it. As he got it to the edge of the water  the fish made a dash for freedom as it popped the hook. It was a nice bass around the 4lb mark. We ended up landing 5 smooth hounds  best one going to Will at 7lbs 3ozs. Two common eels and 4 dogfish. Sorry about the picture quality as I forgot my camera and only had my mobile phone handy and the weather did not help.

Thanks lads for getting me my first smoothie .

Loch Etive

Went down the beach and dug my bait for the arbroath boat outing, when I got back from bait collecting I got a text message from Gordon the outing was cancelled due to the weather. Sitting with a 150 lug worm and no where to go I thought. Then Iain gave me a call and asked if I wanted to go fishing on sat anyway. Iain Chris Malky and myself headed for loch etive a good call we thought nice chance of a spur or thornie. Arriving we notice a couple of boats out as the loch was flat calm. Started fishing about 2pm and chris had the first fish a coddling about 1lb 5ozs. This was the norm for about a couple of hours small coddling till the gurnard showed up. We fished for 7 hours and caught coddling and grey gurnards and not a sight of a spur or thornie. Some chaps on a boat came along side to see how we were getting on. I asked how they did after we reported we were getting coddling and gurnards. Their reply was not had a bite all day. They had been on the  all over the loch and had not connected with any fish. Not a good sign if the boats are not getting anything. I think Iain had the most bites off the day midge bites nearly go my pen out to connect the dots. lol.... Chris won the £8.00 sweep we had with his 1lb 5oz coddling and we added a few new species to the hunt.
