Fishing the River Tay

Left Ayr at 6.10am and headed up to the river tay with Eddie for a days fishing. We were meeting 8 other club members who were keen to have a go. We all met up at the hotel and Stewart was there to greet us. Once inside there was the usal banter from Martin see you got here on time.LOL..We always seem to have a small detour on the way it the norm for me.

We left the hotel and was met by the gillie Colin who had the tea and coffee on hand. After much good advise from Colin it was getting down to the fishing. Looking at the Tay you have to admire it. Martin and Eddie had the morning session on the boat and the others spinning from the banks. Above Jamie and Steven pluging away

We had heard martin had hooked into a nice fish around 9lbs but it had gained its freedom. Stewart as always ready to give advise and ready to give a wee lesson to us beginers as shown above and below.

We then had a break for lunch and a few catch up stories. It was then back to fishing the second half of the river. About an hour into the fishing Rodney let out a yell fish on. This report, picts and video can be seen on the Ayr Sea Angling blogspot which I have a link too also martins blogspot has his report there is also a link. Robney landed a nice fresh 12lb der. Well done that man.

Eddie and myself had a last attempt further down the river and I managed to get a small wild brown trout. No monster by all means but my first ever river fish fair chuffed.

Many thanks to Stewart and Colin for taking us sea anglers in hand and showing uz how its done. I came away with much respect for the river Tay. As a lad I played around the river Ayr. The Tay showed not all rivers are the same and its not as easy as it looks. I will be back at some time for another go. Great day out lads thanks.
