Loch Etive charter boat outing

10 member's fished the charter boat on Sat. Arriving at taynuilt slip for 8.30am some small boats had already arrived on the beach. We boarded the boat at 9pm and started fishing at 9.30pm.

There were small spurs about at first, Mark catching them 2 at a time. The other guys getting into the action as well nice to see.

Then the bigger ones appeared along with the smaller ones. First one for myself at 3lbs 11ozs but that didn't last long with Iain landing a nice spur at 5lbs 1oz. The whitting also made an appearance and as you see with Iain whitting they did not last long if you did not land them. Eddie then landed a nice spur of 6lbs 1oz the best spur of the day. I came close to what I thought was a good fish as the rod tip got pulled over and a lot of head shaking was going on. Eddie had a wee sweat on almost sure I heard a sigh of relief as it was wrapped up making it feel bigger than it was.

We had a sweep of £2.50 for the heaviest spur that was won by Eddie and £2.50 for any other heaviest species. This was won by Matt with a 1lb 7oz lsd. Well done guys.

A good day and banter too as everyone had a shot of winning any one of the sweeps but just getting pipped by ozs from Eddie and Matt.

Looking forward to the next outing guys.

Loch Etive

We headed up to Loch Etive to fish our club match. There were a few delays on the way up with road work's going on. Finally arrived and the wind had picked up a bit but was to die down later on. A few guy's I had talked too were fishing for Pollack but had no success due to the fresh water in the loch.

We headed to our fishing place and started the match. The first few hours the spurs were about.

Then the rain started around 6pm and did not let up till the end of the match at 10pm. There was still a few spurs around but the main stay were whitting codling doggies and thornies.

Results were
Shane 1st with 15 fish for 613pts
Mark 2nd with 14 fish for 449pts
Frank 3rd with 9 fish for 381pts
Stewart 4th with 9 fish for 350pts
John 5th with 2 fish for 115pts

Well done guys for staying the course in the wet conditions and getting home safely with the road conditions and detours.

ASAC Sweepstake Results

Results from last night’s sweepstake at Prestwick  …

1st - Stuart Ballantyne with 166cm (5 fish – 3 Flounders, 1 Bass and 1 Coalie)
2nd - Nico Wilson with 129cm (5 fish – 4 Flounders and 1 Bass)
3rd - Willie Kennedy 115cm (4 fish – 4 Flounders).

Longest fish .. Stuart Ballantyne with a 41cm Flounder.

Conditions at the start of the match were good with a nice surf rolling in, however the wind dropped away and the sea calmed. Things started off great for Willie with a double shot of good Flounders at 40 & 34cm on his first cast. I heard through the grapevine though that Stuart Ballantyne also had a double shot of Flounders at the start. Flounders were the main catch through the daylight hours and as it got dark there were a number of small Cod and a few whiting.

All in all a good night with most guys catching fish.

LRF

Shane and myself decided to have a go at some light rock fishing. We headed to Port Logan with some lures jig heads and a spinning rods.

On the way down there was plenty of fog around but when we arrived no fog insight which was good. A few boats were heading out too.

We fished from 2.30pm till 7.30pm we ended up with about 50 fish between us as the light was going we had to leave the rock marks before it got to dark to see.

Fishing the local beach

After fishing the club match a couple of nights ago with only little fish being caught. Shane and I decided to give the local beach ago as we had some bait left over. The weather was not pleasant at all leaving in the rain and arriving in the rain.

We had a small window to get the waders and water proof jackets on before hitting the beach. First cast produced a nice brace of flounders for me.

Then Shane had a nice coalie and some small codling along with myself.

We ended the night with some more codling and coalies and one last flounder for me.

Just goes to show you what a couple of night can do.

A good venue for a couple of hours fishing.

A few hours fishing

Shane picked me up about 10am and we went digging some bait. With plenty of bait dug we headed on to our fishing destination. When we got there and another angler was fishing and the surf looked good as I was looking for a bass for the club species hunt. Shane got his last time out which put him ahead with 19 species caught and 18 for me.

Got the rods up and traces baited and fired out just put my rod on the rest and a few taps on the tip resulted in a small bass was I chuffed blank off and another species ticked off.

We fished for five and half hours and had 28 bass from half a pound to one and half pounds drop four between us and Shane had a small flounder.

club shore match

Fished the club shore match last week. One of the better matches as the fish decided to play.
Species we were after was bass smooth hounds and tope.
The smoothies made  an appearance but the bass and tope decided to stay away.

Sanny with the first smoothie and ended up with 15 fish and winning the match.

Myself with a smoothie of 91cms giving me the longest fish for about half an hour and ended up with 6 fish to come 2nd.

Frank with his first smoothie they do get bigger Frank.

Shane with his only smoothie at 96cms which gave him the longest fish and came in 3rd.
Shane also holds the longest fish for the year in a club match nice one.

Species Hunt

Went fishing with my son Shane on a few species hunt. First we went for some wrasse and we had a few. Nothing big but ticked a few boxes on thee species list.

Next we went for some Smooth Hounds and Tope. No tope wanted to play but some small Smooth Hounds did show up biggest one at 5lbs 4ozs.

We headed out last night with some bait we had left from the club match on wens night. Picked our spot on the beach as the wind was howling and white waves heading into the beach. A nice results for Shane as he landed 3 nice bass from 3lbs to 4lb range. A blank session for me the only difference I noticed was Shane was using a different trace just goes to show you.

That now makes us both on 18 species each.
