Down the local beach

Went fishing down the local beach with Shane Will and Nico. Got some fresh lug and started fishing.
Nico was first with a small flounder and then a nice bass. Will had a very small codling but was soon into a double shot. A flounder and a bass. Shane and myself had a few flounders. A lot of small fish about codling and whiting about 4inchs long. A good sign as no codling or whiting being caught till now. Miss my best chance at a good bass. I got this small rattle on the rod tip followed by a bang and the tip pulled over. Lifted into it fish on as I got the slack line in it gave a few head shakes as it hit the surf then fish lost. Inspecting the hook it had the head off a small whiting. The whiting hit the bait and a bass hit the whiting just missing the hook. Well that's fishing for you.

Then to top it off Will lands a 6lb 10oz mullet after we spent about ten hours last week trying to catch one Lucky or what.

 

Port Patrick

We had a match down at Port Patrick. The sun was shining down and the sea looked good.
We all headed for our chosen marks. First time fishing this area and it amazed me the amount of rip pull there was in the water. All the other guys had the same problem as I found out later on.

There was a few different species caught and a big bull seal decided to see what was about. A few dolphins also made a show. Fishing during the day was a bit slow till the light went down. I am convinced this mark is a night venue.

At the end of the match there was flounder, plaice, dabs, coalies, tub and grey gurnards, launce, and the old doggies. Some nice edible crabs were caught too.

 

Boat Fishing Port Patrick

Left Port Patrick at 9.00am on board Rhinns Ranger and headed to our mark but was met by a fog bank which dictated how the fishing would be for the rest of the day. We had planed to anchor up and fish for some tope. The skipper had a couple of drifts and soon we had some nice whiting and haddock on board.

The next drift produced Gurnards, Plaice, and the odd dogfish. We had a shot at anchoring and the Bull Huss made an appearance and the hope of a tope might be around. The skipper made the call to up anchor as visibility was poor as the fog was all around us as you will notice in the Picts.

Went on the drift again and was into some nice Bull Huss, Whiting and more dogfish. Mat had the best haddock which made it escape to freedom as I was taking his picture. Darren and Malky best Bull Huss at 9lbs 4os for Malky Darren`s around the 10lb mark. Shane the mackerel king and Victoria had a nice launce and Mat had a nice plaice. Everyone had a good time and plenty of fish caught well done guys.

A few hours fishing

Shane Nico and myself had a wee session down the local beach last night. Dug some fresh lug at low tide. Started fishing around 7.30pm. Shane was first into a nice flounder around 1lb 1/2. Pestered with weed as the tide came in but patience paid off as you see. We finish the night with 6 bass and 2 flounders. The best bass going to Nico around the 3lb mark. All fish were returned alive. Finish fishing at 12.30am

Loch Etive

Went a few days fishing with Shane to loch Etive off the shore.We started fishing about 10pm. After a couple off hours we were into some fish. The old dogfish made the first apperance and then some thornies. Still no spurs about thats when ur greatful for the doggies to keep the action going. Then I noticed a slight bite struck into it and the rod had a nice bend in it. Landed the first spur off 7lbs 10ozs not a bad fish picture taken then released. Called it a day round about 3.00am and went for a kip.

We woke about 8am the next day and was ready for another session. Through out the day we had more doggies and thornies till some small codling made an apperance then I landed a small thornie about 2lbs with some thorns on the tip off the nose and over its eyes. Turning it around it had four thorns sticking out from its belly never came across one like this also had ridges on its head. We called it a day around 6pm as I managed to land a nice ling off 2lbs 7ozs and scorpion fish before we left.
